Paralegal, Group Protection The candidate will support functions and activities of the Group Protection Legal & Compliance Team, with a focus on legal research and customer agreement support. Under direction of supervising attorney, will conduct legal research relevant to Group Protection's products and services, such as state insurance laws and regulations, federal and state benefits laws (including ERISA), as well as general legal research (statutory and case law) covering topics as diverse as privacy, eligibility for payment under group life and disability coverage, and licensing/regulatory compliance. Support Group Protection's customer agreement review process, including managing customer agreement workflows, the customer agreement review SharePoint site, and conducting first-pass reviews of customer agreements. Research, review and analyze requests for proposals and customer requests for information, applying critical thinking and analysis. Organize and maintain Legal Team's OneNote site. Monitor and triage requests to Legal Team's Nondisclosure Agreement and Claim Audit mailboxes, performing first-pass reviews of nondisclosure and data sharing agreements. Maintain and report on metrics for nondisclosure agreements, requests for proposal, data sharing agreements, and customer agreements. Complete a variety of Legal Department administrative and legal projects as assigned. Willingness to perform other duties as required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have an Associate degree or Bachelor's degree with relevant paralegal experience. Must have 2-3 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house environment. Experience in group insurance and/or financial services industry preferred. Should have ability to draft concise memoranda, emails, and other communications, tailored to a variety of legal and business audiences. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote) needed. Proficiency in SharePoint a plus. Experience with general legal research tools and resources (Lexis, Westlaw, Pacer, etc.) an asset. Demonstrated record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations is ideal.
