The candidate will be responsible to provide assistance to attorney’s in fact intensive investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and overall client service. Functions specific to litigation practice may include written discovery, electronic discovery, deposition preparation, employment and medical records requests/tracking and summarizing, investigation and trial preparation, analysis of factual information, assistance in preparation of chronologies, summaries, pleadings, motions and/or briefs, management of document production databases and trial participation. Prepare detailed case chronologies and summarize deposition transcripts. Independently organize and manage files or delegate similar tasks. Pre-trial preparation and trial attendance. Attend and participate in internal CLEs. Anticipate attorney needs in litigation process. Serve as a mentor to a Paralegal Assistant, or more junior Paralegal, as needed. Engage in occasional interaction with clients. Stay informed of developments in Paralegal industry. Meet annual billable hour target of 1500. Perform other duties as required.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have a Minimum of 3 years relevant experience. An Associate’s degree is required while Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate is preferred. Significant, substantive legal related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education at the discretion of the SBU Leader. Ability to synthesize and summarize relevant case information in chronologies and deposition transcript summaries is necessary. Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with clients and employees at all times; professional appearance is required. Ability to successfully perform position requirements with excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills are needed. Ability to work collaboratively within a team; ability and willingness to adapt to changing business demands is required. Ability to produce acceptable amount of work efficiently and accurately; ability to produce quality final work product is critical. Ability to exercise good judgment at all times by making sound and practical decisions; ability to assume responsibility for decisions and act decisively under deadlines is necessary. High level of professional integrity required; ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust is compulsory. Strong oral and written communication skills are must. Ability to prioritize workflow and manage time is needed. Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is required. Ability to build strong client relations by quickly responding to needs is essential. Demonstrate reliability and deliver on commitments is necessary. Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills is needed. Proven success working in a fast- paced, continually changing environment is essential. Ability to independently handle all key duties without supervision of another Paralegal or Senior Paralegal is critical.

I would suggest hosting more events for the associates and partners to get to know their coworkers outside of their practice areas.

Pros : Every attorney is brilliant and passionate about their work area. A wide variety of practice areas allows associates to experience new disciplines before they pick the best fit.
Cons : This is common among large firms, but it is difficult to get to know all of the other attorneys in a work environment this large.
