Job Overview:

A law firm in Costa Mesa, CA, is seeking a Mid-Level Digital Risk Advisory and Cyber-Security Associate Attorney with 3-6 years of experience. This role focuses on proactive and reactive privacy and data protection compliance matters, including advising on data security incidents, regulatory investigations, and compliance with contractual and legal obligations related to security. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in privacy and cybersecurity breach response or litigation, strong project management skills, and the ability to communicate and manage a complex workload effectively.

Duties:

• Advise clients on compliance with privacy and data protection, including state, federal, and international regulations.
• Provide counsel on data security incidents, including breach response and remediation strategies.
• Represent clients in regulatory investigations related to privacy and data security.
• Assist clients with understanding and meeting contractual and legal obligations regarding data protection.
• Develop and implement strategies for proactive privacy and cybersecurity risk management.
• Draft and review privacy policies, data protection agreements, and other relevant documentation.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to address and resolve privacy and security issues.
• Monitor and stay current with evolving data privacy and security laws and regulations.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations on privacy and security matters for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring timely and accurate completion.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in privacy and data protection law, focusing on cybersecurity.
• Proven experience advising on privacy and security obligations, including data breach response and regulatory investigations.
• Experience in a law firm or in-house roles, with a demonstrated interest in privacy and cybersecurity breach response work.
• Exceptional project management skills and the ability to handle a complex workload effectively.
• Strong understanding of state, federal, and international data privacy and security laws.
• Effective and persuasive writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to interact with technical and non-technical team members, distilling complex technical issues for non-technical audiences.
• Motivated to learn and understand technology and forensic investigations.
• Strong professional commitment and interpersonal skills for a collaborative team environment.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
