Senior Director Law and Programming The candidate will assist senior Law-Programming attorneys in the overall management of the business and legal affairs with respect to the company’s distribution of broadcast signals and cable networks, including drafting agreements and providing legal advice to executives and management. Will handle day-to-day regulatory issues, including carriage requirements for television broadcast stations, subscriber notice requirements, etc. Work with the Programming Acquisition to negotiate, draft, review and revise retransmission consent contracts for carriage of broadcast television stations and affiliation agreements for cable networks. Work with Programming Acquisition, Product and Implementation and Compliance to manage launches and other carriage obligations. Work with senior Law-Programming attorneys to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management. Prepare summaries and analyses of existing contracts (e.g., MFN clauses, carriage requirements). Field and answer questions from Programming Acquisition and Product teams concerning contractual compliance, copyright issues, and FCC regulations. Keep informed of FCC regulations affecting distribution of video programming.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have law degree. Top-tier law school preferred. Must be admitted to the Connecticut Bar, or eligible for admission as in-house counsel in Connecticut. Must have 2-4 years in content distribution and licensing, either at a top law firm, programmer, or distributor. Alternatively, 3-5 years at a top law firm with a focus on complex commercial transactions. Strong interest in the business, legal and regulatory issues related to the distribution of broadcast and cable network content over various platforms is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills is essential. Excellent English skills is essential.
