The candidate will work in a community of legal services attorneys and staff dedicated to equal justice. Will undertake duties like conducting applicant screening and intake, legal and factual research, communicating with clients. Provide information to people making inquiry about services and makes referrals to an appropriate agency or organization. Provide assistance to the extent permitted under law under the supervision of an attorney to clients. Conduct factual investigation; prepare interrogatories and requests for production of documents, and interrogatory answers. Arrange, file and serve legal pleadings, including Complaints, Answers, Motions, Case Information Statements and other documents. Prepare correspondence; handle incoming and outgoing mail. Maintain contact with clients, courts, judges, opposing counsel, and others and is responsible for scheduling meeting arrangements and maintaining calendars. Give information to people making inquiry about services and makes referrals to an appropriate agency or organization. Act as facilitator of volunteer project. Participate in the community, including committees, task forces, and working groups.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Paralegal certificate or Associates degree in paralegal or legal studies. Should have 2+ years of experience as a paralegal in at least one of areas of law like family law, bankruptcy, consumer law, litigation. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, compassion, positive attitude and ability to maintain a good working relationship with all members of the office staff and work in team environment. Good attention to detail and accuracy and ability to communicate and write clearly and understandably is crucial. Good capabilities of technology, including word processing, case database, calendaring and scheduling software, e-mail, e-filing and legal software. Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle for work-related travel or other means of fulfilling responsibility for work-related travel is important. Bilingual in English-Spanish is preferable.
