Legal Assistant The candidate will be drafting legal documents and correspondence. Will be assisting in drafting, editing, updating agreements needed to enter into partnerships with public agencies and other non-profits, to engage design, engineering, and environmental consultants, and to document public grants in support of the design and construction of parks and playgrounds in the City of Newark. Tracking and reporting on the legal status of projects and programs and related tasks. Upgrading document management. Draft, edit, proof, and modified consultant agreements, construction contracts, grants, and agreements with public for legal department review. Review grant and contract requirements to produce implementation checklists in coordination with attorney. Assist with competitive, public, and/or negotiated bid processes for consultants and contractors. Review the quality and completeness of contract and grant documentation to ensure it complies with internal and other relevant standards. Review, analyze and summarize legal documents necessary for tracking and reporting on the legal status of projects. Track timely extension and amendment of existing agreements and grants. Bachelor's degree or higher is essential. Should have 2 - 4 years of progressively responsible work experience in legal administration, or comparable positions, preferably in construction contracting and/or grant management. Good working computer skills with proficiency in spreadsheet, word-processing, e-mail, calendaring and web-based database applications is needed. Experience with AIA construction contract forms a plus. Superior oral and written communications skills are a must. Candidate must have ability to understand needs of each particular audience, and be able to create and maintain tonally appropriate and effective communications and reports. New Jersey State notary public commission or willingness to pursue once hired is a plus.
