Senior Immigration Attorney The candidate will provide coordination of the delivery of immigration legal services to survivors of human trafficking and intimate partner violence. Develop specialized knowledge related to all areas of immigration law affecting survivors of intimate partner violence and human trafficking, including removal defense, emerging best practices under new policy changes, interviews before USCIS, and appellate practice in immigration law. Provide direct immigration legal services to foreign national human trafficking and intimate partner violence assault survivors, including the filing of T visa, U visa, Violence Against Women Act self-petitions, and related applications, renewals, and appeals. Supervise accredited representatives and legal assistants as well immigration-related work by fellows, interns, and pro-bono attorneys. Develop training materials and provide training to volunteer attorneys, interns, and fellows on immigration topics. Collaborate with current community partners and form new partnerships in the immigrant advocacy community and immigration bar. Contribute to programmatic reporting required under grants. Complete administrative tasks including filing, scanning, mailing, and maintaining files as direct support to administrative staff as needed.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should be licensed to practice law in Texas. Should have 3 years of experience in immigration law. A demonstrated commitment to public interest work and desire to assist survivors of trauma. Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a variety of contexts with both attorneys and other professionals. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Willingness to develop new knowledge and skills as needed for the position. Ability to commute to Mosaic main office and other off-site appointments as needed. Prior experience providing victim-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally competent legal assistance to crime victims/survivors is preferred. Prior experience filing U Visa, T Visa, or Violence Against Women Act self-petitions is preferred. Prior experience with family law is preferred. Prior experience supervising interns/law students, legal assistants, or other attorneys is preferred. Bilingual (reading, writing, speaking) in English and proficiency in one additional language is preferred.
