Staff Attorney The candidate will provide a spectrum of holistic legal advice/counsel and direct representation to victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking on a wide range of civil legal matters. Legal subject areas primarily include: privacy, safety, housing, employment, education, family law, immigration and consumer/finance. Work as a collaborative member of organisation’s Legal Team, including legal advocates. Develop client safety plans and provide appropriate referrals. Ensure empowering, professional relationships with clients to create an atmosphere of empathy, safety, and support. Work to eliminate barriers to service, particularly for survivors from historically oppressed communities. Complete the above or other duties as assigned at any organisation work site location. Work constructively with the Legal Team Manager to reach program goals and objectives. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with community partners. Attend community partnership and collaborative meetings throughout San Diego County. Maintain a working knowledge of San Diego County’s sexual assault and intimate partner violence service providers. Provide and participate in trainings with agency staff, local service providers, community partners, and related professionals. Promote the safety and well-being of clients by modeling and encouraging healthy communication, safety-focused decision-making, and acceptance of diversity. Meet agency standards in regards to professionalism, safety, and service delivery when interacting with clients, community members, agency staff, and the general public. Ensure ongoing familiarization with all organisation programs and services, including eligibility requirements, in order to answer basic questions and refer clients accurately. Work as a team with all other organisation departments to provide comprehensive client services when needed. Participate in cross-training and team collaboration efforts as necessary. Maintain client confidentiality by protecting client information and ensuring that appropriate paperwork is understood and completed by clients (e.g. consent for services forms and release of information forms when collaborating with other programs/entities). Adhere to agency policies and protocols related to the security of electronic client service records. Maintain the highest levels of accuracy in record-keeping and reporting, ensuring that all client files and documentation are complete and up-to-date and submitted to supervisor as directed. Accurately, thoroughly, and promptly document client services, outreach, training, and other work duties using designated electronic information management system. Accurately document time and activities worked using designated electronic time-keeping program and submit timesheets, and personnel and departmental paperwork according to agency standards and due dates. Maintain an up-to-date shared business calendar in Outlook as directed. Update and maintain the agency’s resource and referral guide according to protocol. Assist in evaluation of LAV program in conjunction with Legal Team Manager. Carry out other duties as necessary to ensure organizational and program success.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school and California licensed attorney. Should have 2+ years of post-bar litigation experience. Completion of California Office of Emergency Services approved Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training required (or must be completed upon hire) is required. Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish is needed. Knowledge of sexual assault and intimate partner violence issues and their impact on individuals and families is must. Proficiency in internet research, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential. Basic knowledge of data entry is required. Experience with developing and enhancing community collaborations is preferred. Experience developing and giving presentations is desired.
