Advocacy Director / Senior Advocacy Associate The candidate will be expected to help build firm’s communications staff from a single FTE into an Advocacy Department in the next 24 months. Responsibilities: Maintain relationships with journalists, editors, communications staffers, and influencers; Quickly produce persuasive press releases, media advisories, and social media toolkits; Develop medium and long-range communications and media strategies across all platforms; Produce rapid reaction social media content and distribute same; Regularly review media performance, with data-driven recommendations for improvement; Work as part of local, state, and national advocacy coalitions; Coordinate production staff and outreach for firm’s forthcoming podcast; Supervise other advocacy staff. Must have a personal commitment to dismantling systems of mass surveillance and white supremacy; Should have exemplary written and oral communication skills; Must have 4 years of social media, online campaign, communications experience, with track-record of successfully generating high audience engagement; Should have knowledge of New York City and State politics and community-based organizations; College degree required, law degree or graduate public policy degree preferred; and Proficiency in multiple languages preferred; and able to nurture a sense of community and mutual support within an organization.
