A law firm in Richmond, VA is seeking a Bankruptcy Attorney to represent its existing client base. The attorney will work closely with the firm’s clients, administrative staff, and other attorneys to manage a diverse caseload of bankruptcy matters. The ideal candidate will have strong research and writing skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple cases in both consumer and commercial bankruptcy.
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent the firm’s existing client base in various bankruptcy matters, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 cases.
- Provide comprehensive legal representation, managing cases from initial client consultation through court filings, hearings, and discharge.
- Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to ensure accurate and timely case handling.
- Conduct legal research on bankruptcy law, stay updated on changes in federal and state bankruptcy regulations, and apply findings to client cases.
- Draft and file legal documents, including petitions, motions, pleadings, and proofs of claim.
- Participate in creditor negotiations, restructuring plans, and settlement discussions to protect the best interests of clients.
- Appear in bankruptcy court for hearings, motion practice, and other proceedings on behalf of clients.
- Advise clients on debt restructuring, liquidation, and discharge processes, ensuring they understand their rights and legal options.
- Manage a diverse caseload of both consumer and commercial bankruptcy matters, ensuring that all client matters are handled efficiently and effectively.
- Work with clients to gather financial information, develop case strategies, and maintain open communication throughout the legal process.
Requirements:
- Experience in bankruptcy law, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 filings.
- Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to draft complex legal documents and present legal arguments effectively.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload, working with both consumer and commercial clients.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, attorneys, and staff.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring that all deadlines and filing requirements are met.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced legal environment.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Virginia State Bar is required.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certification in Bankruptcy Law or related areas of consumer or commercial law is beneficial but not required.
