ProfileParalegal The candidate works in a varied capacity and supports Unit attorneys by performing initial investigative review of claims filed by the Commonwealth specifically criminal and Qui Tam cases alleging fraud in the Virginia Medicaid Program. Prepares drafts of legal documents and memoranda for attorney review, performs legal research and writing analytical memoranda for attorney review, maintains document and file control, and assists in all phases of trial preparation and the discovery process.
Qualification and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or Legal Assistant Certificate is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for educational criteria. Experience with Microsoft Word is a plus. Should have Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, and court procedures. Position requires excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated in a writing sample (no page length requirement). Will demonstrate exceptional verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information. Candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision. Litigation experience is required.
