Privacy Counsel (US): Global Privacy Legal Lead The candidate will report to the Chief Privacy Counsel and will be a key member of the Global Privacy Office (GPO). Will act as a trusted privacy advisor to the company. Will work in an ongoing and collaborative way with other members of the GPO and LPA communities, as well as other business groups, in carrying out his or her responsibilities. Assigned to key business units to enable ongoing, enterprise-wide, privacy governance, management, transactional support and legal advice. Provide support in the AMS, APJ, and EMEA regions. Will be the global privacy lead for the Customer Support and Procurement functions, as well as provide privacy support for to the enterprise sales teams responsible for enterprise sales transactions in US, Canada and LAM. Will drive and provide support to special projects, as assigned to you by the Chief Privacy Counsel. Within the legal team, assignments may change as determined by the Chief Privacy Counsel in order to support the dynamic changes in the business and also to provide development opportunities with the legal team. Provide privacy guidance and expertise to the support and procurement functions, including transactional and process events involving privacy and data protection. Assist the LPA team by reviewing and negotiating privacy-related agreements (e.g., data protection addendums in support of sales and procurement transactions). Assist in creating and delivering privacy training for LPA and the business to assure they understand and are equipped to carry out their privacy-related responsibilities as they relate to support and procurement. Review new and modified support services and processes, as well as third party vendor and supply arrangements, and advise business teams to assure privacy-related requirements are implemented appropriately, including assistance with privacy by design and Data Protection Impact Assessments. Work with other members of the GPO to update program policies, playbooks, and other artifacts and provide related company and team training and communications. Support legal transactions (M&A, procurement, and other teams), including drafting and negotiating customer and supplier agreements as needed. Support privacy incident response activities. Support regulator and customer inquiries and compliance. Drive and or support special projects as assigned (e.g., research projects).
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar. CIPP certification a plus. 5-7 years’ experience supporting technology sales and procurement transactions; e.g. Master Service Agreements, SaaS and Cloud Services Agreements, Professional Services Agreements, etc. 5-7 years’ experience handling complex privacy and data protection legal matters. Experience in providing legal guidance to customer support, and in resolving customer complaints/disputes. In-house experience a plus. Strong substantive knowledge of U.S. privacy and data protection laws as well as international privacy and data protection laws. Experience with consumer and enterprise products, online and mobile privacy, e-commerce, cloud computing, cyber security, enterprise network security, big-data analytics, and data governance. Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues in a fast-paced corporate setting. Sound appreciation for risk tolerance and stabilizing opposing interests, priorities, and timelines. Strong collaborative leadership skills. A can-do and practical attitude. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
