Paralegal Specialist The candidate provides legal support services to Affiliated Sales, including two standalone Nationwide legal entities: Nationwide Securities, LLC, a registered retail broker-dealer, and Nationwide Financial General Agency, an insurance general agency. Provides legal support services to various unaffiliated distribution platforms, including broker-dealers (BDs), insurance marketing organizations (IMOs), brokerage general agents (BGAs), and registered investment advisors (RIAs). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, administering regulatory monitoring process; assisting NF Due Diligence, NF Conduct, NF Compensation, and NF Litigation Committees; conducting legal research; tracking licensing/registration requirements; analyzing statutes, regulations, and court decisions; and, monitoring trade group calls. Provides the highest level of legal support services to attorneys and counsel in the form of legal research, drafting of legal and business communications, and document preparation for trial. Requires little supervision in the execution of assigned tasks. Conducts the broadest and most complex and detailed legal research and compiles data from such references as on-line references, digests, practice manuals or other sources. Researches and provides analysis of statutes, regulations and court decisions. Prepares summaries of digests and recommends resolutions to legal questions. Prepares memos to internal and external contacts. Drafts contracts, patent applications, resolutions and other legal documents. Works with attorney on unusual matters. Drafts detailed deposition outlines/questions, motions, pleadings, subpoenas, orders and briefs. Conducts and supervises broad level assignments, necessitating the ability to evaluate matters which may have a major impact on the conduct of the company. May assist the attorney in executing moderate legal matters. Leads the analysis and evaluation of records and data for discovery. Drafts recommendations and correspondence to clients, claims attorneys, and customer with regard to discovery and legal matters. Develops and maintains internal information data bases. Creates new processes for data maintenance, storage and retrieval. Conducts and evaluates open and closed paralegal file audits and informs attorneys and management of the audit results; makes appropriate recommendations for improvement. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and precedents for the paralegal area. Serves as subject matter expert, coordinates workflow and mentors/trains lower level paralegals. Litigation -responds to requests for production o documents, response to interrogatories, and coordinates pre-trial proceedings and discovery.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should preferably have Undergraduate or post-graduate studies in business administration, insurance or other related area. Certification in paralegal studies is desired. Should have 8+ years experience as paralegal with proven performance. Advanced knowledge of paralegal, concepts, practices and procedures is needed. Advanced knowledge of the operations, practices and procedures of general counsel or civil litigation is must. Proven knowledge of filing requirements of relevant courts and administrative agencies is essential. Must have a demonstrated knowledge in legal research and complex deposition motion practices as well as appellate procedures.
