ProfileLegal Counsel The candidate should preferably have 3+ years of experience in environmental law or similar experience in administrative or natural resources law. A comprehensive understanding and experience in interpreting federal and state clean-water and water-resource management laws and regulations, especially as they relate to permitting and water-quality issues, is strongly preferred. The responsibilities of Legal Counsel include: Drafting, interpreting, and analyzing current and proposed state and federal statutes, regulations, and policies; Representing the Department in negotiations with regulated entities, cooperating agencies, vendors, and others; Coordinating compliance assistance, appeals, and enforcement matters, including working with the Attorney General’s Office on matters referred to that office for litigation; and Counseling Department staff regarding general legal matters. Should have JD degree from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. Must be license to practice law in the State of Missouri.
