Job Overview:

A law firm in Oakland, CA, seeks a Mid-Level Labor and Employment Attorney to join their team. The successful candidate will actively participate in all employment litigation and advisory matters, representing employers in various forums and providing expert counsel on federal and state employment laws.

Duties:

• Represent employers in court, arbitration, before administrative agencies, and at mediation on class/collective actions, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour issues.
• Defend clients in PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) matters.
• Draft and respond to pleadings and discovery requests.
• Draft and argue motions.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Provide employment counseling on federal and state employment laws as needed.
• Manage cases from inception to resolution, including overseeing the work of associate attorneys and paralegals when necessary.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admitted and a member in good standing of the California Bar.
• A minimum of 5+ years of employment litigation experience.
• Experience with class action and PAGA matters preferred.
• Strong command of Federal and California state labor and employment laws.
• Prior experience taking and defending depositions and arguing motions in court.
• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to think strategically and creatively while providing practical counsel to clients.
• Self-starter who can manage cases independently and set a course of action.
