On this team, you will be conducting hearings to decide issues regarding reemployment assistance benefits and liability. Your job will be taking leadership to make sure the hearings achieve the following goals:
- Fair hearings.
- Determine the existence and amount of liability, eligibility, or qualification of benefits following current laws, administrative and judicial precedents, and available evidence.
- Research and analyze laws, regulations, policies, evidence, and precedent decisions to prepare for hearings and determine conclusions.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Appeals Hearings Activities: In this position, you will be required to take all evidence under oath, determine the order of testimony, develop the hearing record, control disruptive parties, rule on objections to evidence, and rule on all oral or written motions filed. Regardless of whether counsel or a duly authorized agent represents a party, your responsibility is making sure a complete record is made of the facts and circumstances surrounding the issues involved.
Decision Writing Activities: You will issue a written decision on each case, using proper grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure in composing decisions. Decisions must be prepared promptly to meet federal time-lapse standards. In formulating the decision, you will use your skills and experience to analyze the evidence entered in the hearing record.
Prehearing and Scheduling Activities: In this job, you will be required to review each assigned case file, determine the issues involved, compile the evidence, schedule the hearing and prepare for the scheduled hearing. You will be ruling on pre-hearing motions, such as motions to affect discovery, issue or quash subpoenas, motions for continuance, and any other pre-hearing motions filed by a party.
You will use all your skills in this job, including understanding and interpreting statutes, regulations, rules, court rules, rules of evidence, and applicable court cases. You will also have skills displaying effective verbal and written communication, legal research, and conducting administrative hearings.

Juris Doctorate- Must be an attorney with good standing with the Florida Bar OR be successfully admitted to The Florida Bar within eight months after your start date with the State of Florida.
