Job Overview:

A prominent law firm in downtown Chicago is looking to expand its Trusts & Estates team. They are seeking a highly experienced Partner or senior-level attorney with over 10 years of hands-on expertise in advanced estate planning, tax planning, and business transactions. The ideal candidate will be a skilled practitioner with a focus on sophisticated estate planning strategies, mergers & acquisitions, and private equity deals, while also providing exceptional client service to high-net-worth individuals, families, and closely held businesses.

Duties:

  • Lead complex estate and trust planning engagements for affluent clients.
  • Draft and implement sophisticated estate and tax planning strategies, including business succession and asset protection planning.
  • Advise on estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax matters.
  • Guide private equity, mergers & acquisitions, and securities offerings.
  • Work closely with clients to develop personalized legal solutions in business transactions.
  • Coordinate with tax professionals and other advisors to implement holistic plans.
  • Mentor and provide strategic guidance to junior attorneys and staff.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Trusts & Estates law, with a focus on sophisticated estate planning, tax strategies, and business transactions.
  • Strong communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to handle complex legal matters and manage high-net-worth client relationships.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to draft clear, effective legal documents.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills to manage junior attorneys and legal staff.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Additional qualifications such as . in Taxation, CPA, CFP, MBA, or MST are highly preferred.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in Illinois.
  • Other certifications such as CPA or CFP are a plus.

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting and implementing complex estate planning documents.
  • Proficiency in tax and business transaction planning.
  • Strong client-facing skills and ability to build long-term relationships.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Experience managing a team of legal professionals.
