Senior Paralegal Responsibilities: Support the legal team’s day-to-day and strategic needs to serve the Department. Achieve alignment of business deals and legal documentation by analyzing moderately to highly complex business deals and prepare and negotiate customized contracts with minimal guidance. This involves close interaction with the Account Executives, Sales Executives, Senior Management, client business and legal personnel and Law Department attorneys in order to understand, negotiate and incorporate final contracting parameters. This also entails general legal support of the Department while demonstrating a keen understanding of their expectations and exercising independent judgment in determining materiality of issues that impact the bottom line. Continually monitor and improve (as needed) any and all services provided to the Department with minimal attorney supervision. Common agreement types include: marketing agreements, insurance agency agreements, reinsurance agreements, vendor agreements, surety bonds, and commercial insurance policies. Responsible for duties such as cross-training, maintenance of contract templates, etc. Alternatively, may include duties of a “specialty paralegal” where the Paralegal’s proficiency in a particular subject or process can be maximized (i.e. contracts, reinsurance, research, etc.). Assist in the development and maintenance of standard contracts, including the development and implementation of processes, systems and required tools to ensure that contracts are prepared accurately, efficiently and timely. Serve as point of contact for all legal contract database training, inquiries, management, testing and upgrades. Support attorneys with special projects including legal research and records retention, etc., with the ability to work in an ever-changing environment. Act as liaison for Department contract audits.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. A strongly preferred that the candidate have prior work experience at either a private law firm, public in-house legal department, or insurance company’s legal department. 7+ years’ experience as a paralegal or contract administrator with contract drafting. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in legal studies. 10 years’ experience as a paralegal or contract administrator with contract drafting and negotiation duties.
