Litigation Paralegal Duties: Investigate the facts of a case, and summarize findings to supervising attorneys. Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles. Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing system. Gather and arrange evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation. Conduct interviews of clients, witnesses and other third parties. Draft correspondence and legal documents such as pleadings, motions, draft discovery responses, and subpoenas. Obtain affidavits and other formal statements that may be used as evidence in court. Collect and prepare materials to be submitted to experts. Review, digest and summarize written discovery, document production, medical records, and items obtained via subpoena. Assist lawyers during trials by handling exhibits, taking notes, drafting reports, reviewing trial transcripts ensuring file is trial ready. File exhibits, briefs, appeals and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel. Coordinate with various parties to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions. Perform court runs, deliver subpoenas, or make other job-related deliveries or pickups as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Paralegal Certificate. 3-5 years’ experience as a litigation paralegal with Workers Compensation experience. Previous experience in timekeeping and calendaring processes.Demonstrated skill set to prepare medical records summaries and perform records management. Ability to maintain IME reports and prepare records. Solid time management and prioritization skills to manage files and docket. Strong technology skills to ensure compliance with client reporting requirements utilizing Compasse case management software. Computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet. Familiarity of state and federal court systems, including documentation and filing procedures. Familiarity of state and federal court systems, including documentation and filing procedures in Illinois.
