Legal Specialist I
The candidate will conduct research and analysis using legal sources including statutes, recorded judicial decisions, articles, treaties, constitutions and legal codes. Will respond to general legal inquiries from business clients. Serve as initial contact in department for miscellaneous legal issues as they arise, with authority to resolve and/or escalate. Prepare, draft and maintain various types of records, reports, contracts and file as appropriate. Serve as a liaison with internal business owners and attorneys (both internal and external). Partner with the company's outside firm as directed. Support legal staff in actively monitoring, investigating, and responding to various types of disputes. Monitor case management tools. Prepare reports and assist with the handling of all threatened and pending litigation. Coordinate responses to discovery requests. Manage the response to legal processes. Assist with legal issues involving risk and process improvement. Review outgoing materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Help develop monitoring processes, develop corrective action plans and conduct appropriate follow-up with key stakeholders. Create legal summary and recommendations for the various programs supported by the position. Support the Senior Legal Specialist in preparation and management of corporate records.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Associates degree (Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate is preferred). Must have 1-3 years of experience performing paralegal, contracts administrator, or similar duties in a corporate law department or in a mid-size (25+ attorney) or larger law firm (may be met by a combination of additional education and relevant experience)/ Should have Transactional and contract experience (a combination of negotiation, drafting, review, and administration experience preferred). Litigation experience, including discovery management is needed. Real estate experience, including the review and analysis of environmental reports and title insurance is essential. Must have familiarity with organization and maintenance of corporate documents and Familiarity with intellectual property matters. Excellent written and oral communication and composition skills, including spelling, grammar, proofreading and punctuation is essential. Should be proficient with MS Office software, familiarity with web-based productivity tools (e.g., intranets and portals), and ability to research online; Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
