Judicial Clerk V Duties: Supervises a large operational section of judicial clerks and other lower level clerical support personnel involved in the performance of the full range and variety of court clerical and customer service work in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of a court records for a division within the Circuit, District, Family, Land/Tax Appeal or Appellate Courts; and performs other related duties as required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Excess experience of the type and quality described below or work experience requiring the ability to read and comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. General Experience: 2 years of work experience which involved performance of a variety of clerical tasks, with or without the use of a typewriter and/or computer, which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, compare words and numbers quickly and accurately; and operate various kinds of office equipment. Specialized Experience: 3+ years of responsible work experience in a court or legal setting. Such experience must have included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents. Supervisory Aptitude: Must have demonstrated supervisory aptitude. Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of potential or aptitude for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential. Substitutions Allowed: Substitution of Education for General Experience: Education at an accredited community college or university in a baccalaureate program may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for 6 months of General Experience up to a maximum of 2 years. Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: 1. Completion of a legal stenographer or legal secretary curriculum in a school above the high school level may be substituted for 1 year of Specialized Experience. 2. Study at an accredited university or college in a para-legal, legal studies, or law program may be substituted for 1 year of Specialized Experience. 3. Completion of a law degree from an accredited university or college may be substituted for 2 years of Specialized Experience. Skill Requirement: Type at 40 net WPM.
