Senior Director of Privacy
The Candidate will be responsible for overall Privacy function of the Compliance Services program (“Program”) for the University of Florida (“UF”) and University of Florida Health (“UF Health”) and affiliates, including the University, hospitals, clinics, health science center, and affiliated organizations. (collectively “Entity”). Serve as chief promoter of Entity’s values by driving policies and practices that promote consistency for all Entity persons with respect to their personal information. Enhance the stability and reputation of the Entity by maintaining an effective privacy program that prevents and detects privacy violations, provides for prompt reporting of violations to appropriate agencies in consultation with designated staff, and manage the daily operations of the Entity’s privacy programs. Implements privacy policies and practices that embodies the Entity’s values and reflect our commitment to privacy. Promotes privacy by design by working cross-functionally within the Entity components. Lead various committees and workgroups and oversee, direct, and provide privacy training to employees, faculty, staff, and contracted personnel. Builds relationships with key industry stakeholders, including regulators, peer organizations, privacy advocacy groups, and at state and national forums. Assists the UF Chief Compliance, Ethics, and Privacy Officer and the UF Health VP Compliance and Privacy (hereafter “Compliance Officers”) in overall management of the Privacy Program. Serve as the Entity’s primary point of contact and key resource on privacy matters and advises the Compliance Officers and Entity leadership about privacy matters.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Master’s Degree or Juris Doctorate Degree required with 10+ years’ experience in a privacy, compliance, or equivalent field and 5+ years’ management or leadership experience. JD, MBA, MHA, MSM, MSJ preferred; Experience in privacy program oversight and day-to-day management; Experience with security rules and breach notification and mitigation; Experience with protection of human subjects and research is preferred; Experience with development and implementation of privacy auditing and monitoring plans, training and education, policies and procedures, investigations and responding to detected offenses, and committee reporting; Experienced in an Academic Medical Center (AMC) or higher education setting, or other large/complex organization. Should have Demonstrated knowledge of privacy, compliance, federal and state healthcare laws; Experienced in a large or complex organization. Proven ability to effectively direct complex projects, including demonstrated ability in project management, analytical skills, and problem definition, analysis, and resolution; Possess excellent organizational, writing and presentation skills to communicate with various levels of employees, leadership, and external individuals or groups; Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team; Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, confrontational or contentious situations and have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties without loss of efficiency or composure; Ability to work effectively through others and with others beyond giving and receiving instructions. Privacy certification (i.e., CIPP, CHPC) designations required. Compliance and/or research certification (i.e., CHC, CHRC) required within 12 months of hire or transfer into the position.
