Patent Litigation Paralegal
Responsibilities: Serve as a resource for internal clients relating to domestic and international patent rules and procedures. Responsible for day to day management and maintenance of FibroGen's patent docket and patent files. Review all incoming and outgoing correspondence related to IP and extract information that needs to be entered into FibroGen's docketing database. Maintain and update docketing system in a timely manner; analyzes patent docket deadlines and notifies and communicates deadlines; prepare docket and patent portfolio reports. Management of trademark prosecution matters and related files. Work with annuity payment provider and/or outside counsel to ensure timely payment of patent annuities and maintenance fees. Coordinate completion of formalities documents, and routine correspondence with outside counsel, including execution of declaration, assignments, POAs, and etc.; communication with inventors to obtain signatures and ensure documents are received and filed in an accurate and timely manner; management of invention disclosures/contributions from inventors. Work with the IP team and outside counsel to ensure accuracy and completeness of Information Disclosure Statements (IDS). Development, maintain and update the company’s publication database. Serve as interface for patent prosecution matters and trademark matters with outside IP counsel paralegals and, to a lesser extent, outside attorneys. Responsible, together with in-house counsel, for monitoring outside counsel’s interactions with our development partner in foreign prosecution activities. Support counsel in patent clearance, enforcement, and litigation activities, including document discovery, as needed. Provide IP support for licensing, merger, and similar asset acquisition activities as needed. Coordinate and assist with internal IP training sessions and internal IP strategy meetings, including materials preparation. Primarily responsible for budget and invoice activities in coordination with finance department and outside counsel. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: BS/BA degree in related discipline and at least three years of related experience; or completion of a paralegal program of study or a demonstrated equivalent. At least 3-5 years of patent paralegal experience (US and foreign), preferably, 5 or more years of patent paralegal experience within an in-house corporate legal department of a life science company or a law firm. Familiar with US, PCT, foreign patent application processes and timelines; trademark experience is a plus. Experience in using electronic docketing and/or annuity payment system (knowledge of docketing software). Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; strong Excel skills preferred. Applies strong analytical and business communication skills.
