Responsibilities: Assume responsibility for the strategic development, delivery and execution of a standardized compliant trade compliance program to support the enterprise for the functional area of responsibility in coordination with the Global Director of Global Trade Compliance. Instruct employees to a high level regarding the company's trade compliance policy and procedures. Liaise and work proactively with the regional audit team to schedule and plan compliance audits alongside the regional Audit team schedule (as applicable), this will also include drafting audit reports and following up on action points for completion. Lead and coordinate investigations, audits or disclosures regarding the company's import, export, sanctions or boycott compliance activities in the region. Based on audit findings this role will manage root cause analysis supporting resolution of compliance issues. Define, develop and deliver Trade Compliance training for the regional trade compliance functional area of responsibility. To be prioritized in accordance with the Director of Global Trade Compliance. Provide guidance on multiple international Trade Compliance matters as needed. Ensure direct reports have opportunities for technical, behavioral and organizational development. Instruct employees to a high level regarding the company's trade compliance policy and procedures. Ensure overall Trade Compliance functional areas are conforming to the standards of internal control. Periodically audit according to standardized audit program. Support the development and management of the regional audit dashboard for open trade compliance issues in the region. Develop, publish and maintain key performance indicators relating to Trade Compliance activities for the region. Monitor these metrics to ensure customer service level agreement standards are met and use these metrics to identify process improvements. Take corrective action where necessary. Ensure customs duty / brokerage costs / processing fees, etc. are fully minimized / controlled within the region. Rationalization and effective management of trade compliance service providers. This role is to work with the company's sectors to ensure that their operations and processes comply with the relevant trade (import/export requirements) laws and regulations. Among other things (listed above), the Director will spearhead company-wide trade compliance initiatives, serve as a substantive resource, and assist in audits. The Director will develop and ensure implementation of the company's international trade compliance policies and will coordinate goals and objectives with the Director of Global Trade Compliance. Manage relationship with government authorities. Prepare and maintain staffing plan to support department and business needs. Stay abreast of all issues and regulations that impact trade compliance activities through trade publications, communications with service providers and regular reviews of the appropriate government websites and trade association memberships. Perform other duties associated with trade compliance as may be required maintaining a customer focused attitude and assisting the Director of Global Trade Compliance. Qualifications: Subject Matter expertise in relevant areas of trade compliance (classification, valuation, authorizations [export and import], country of origin, regional trade agreements, etc.) is required. 10+ years of progressively challenging responsibilities in customs and trade compliance (operating and strategic levels) Global customs experience preferred (including management of overseas Customs personnel) Undergraduate degree along with advanced degree in business, law, logistics or government affairs preferred and/or equivalent work experience Highly collaborative with sensitivity to and respect for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds Has implemented and/or managed global customs and logistics initiatives/processes Ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally, across levels and various business functions, and with external parties History of problem solving, strong critical thinking and demonstrated creative thinking abilities Strong desire and ability to challenge status quo Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with demonstrated ability to impact, influence, and negotiate with internal and external resources Strong project management, planning, organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, and problem-solving abilities Strong professional demeanor, facilitation skills, presentation skills and business writing (for executive-level audiences) Ability to train and coach diverse teams Results-oriented - willing to take initiative, bear risks, make decisions and take responsibilities to resolve problems and improve business results Ability to multi-task and balance priorities in a demanding environment.
