Job Overview:
A reputable law firm based in Frederick, MD is seeking a skilled Immigration Attorney to join its growing team. The firm specializes in representing clients in removal proceedings and other immigration matters. As an Immigration Attorney, you will be expected to deliver expert legal counsel, advocate for clients in immigration courts, and manage complex cases involving various government agencies.
Duties:
- Represent clients in removal proceedings before immigration courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
- Conduct in-depth client interviews to gather relevant information and assess case details.
- Draft legal briefs, motions, and other necessary court documents.
- Perform legal research on immigration laws, regulations, and policies to support case development.
- Provide clients with clear legal advice regarding their cases and potential outcomes.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys to devise effective case strategies.
- Stay informed on current developments in immigration law and regulations.
- Participate in client meetings and consultations to maintain strong client relationships.
- Manage multiple caseloads while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of legal work.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Bar in Maryland (or the willingness to obtain it).
- At least 2 years of experience in immigration law, specifically in removal proceedings.
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on client advocacy.
- Proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred; additional language skills such as Portuguese are a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- A demonstrated passion for immigrant rights and legal advocacy.
Education:
- JD Degree from an accredited institution.
Certifications:
- Must be admitted to the Maryland State Bar (or willing to pursue admission).
- Admission to additional State Bars (., West Virginia or Pennsylvania) is beneficial.
Skills:
- Legal research and writing expertise.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Proficient in case management and working under pressure.
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred, Portuguese beneficial).
