Senior Attorney Editor The candidate provides legal interpretation in the form of research, analysis, and writing to support the development and maintenance of the publications in all media. Provides legal review and advice to ensure that published legal information contains and delivers premium legal content. Researches, creates and classifies legal information in the form of headnotes, legal relationships, historical notes, headings, analysis, indexes, highlights, and other text. Reviews and edits legal information created by other employees, authors, freelancers and others. Identifies key legal issues in editorial materials. Demonstrates research competence on Westlaw and with other online research tools. Identifies and proposes opportunities for, and contributes to the enhancement of legal content contained in existing or new content sets and publications. Meets editorial quality and production standards and schedules. Meets established editorial deadlines and requirements for a jurisdiction or practice line with increasing complexity and/or revenue commitments. Consults with finance, marketing, scheduling, and other departments regarding the business aspects of publications as required. Competently develops and maintains relationships with government and vendor contacts, authors, freelancers, and other contributors of information for publication as required. Identifies relationship issues and communicates issues to management, and independently resolves basic issues. May participate in contract negotiations. Verifies own work and that of other staff as required for accuracy and completeness, and ensures that the information is properly presented and organized. Maintains, develops, and shares legal knowledge and skills training as required to complete work; stays current on legal trends and developments and shares with colleagues. Attends and actively participates in meetings as requested/required. Exhibits engagement and collaboration by discussing and resolving difficult issues. Participates in the employee evaluation process (both wider feedback and self- evaluation). Understands the roles and responsibilities of each collaborator/team member and how each role impacts production. Demonstrated strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills are required. Communicates appropriately and effectively with all contacts, both in and outside firm, and is able to effectively communicate in 1-on-1 settings, as well as in group settings. Identifies business issues and proactively proposes solutions. Should have a J.D. degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school required, preferably a law school in California. Must have a judicial clerkship. Must have 3+ years of law firm experience. Membership in good standing to the California Bar is strongly preferred. Previous legal professional experience with focused emphasis on research and writing desired.
