Criminal Law - Prosecution
Assistant District Attorney Manager Duties: Handle appeals, review and answer all manner of filings presented to this Office, which number in the hundreds of filings each week. Assist all units in the Office with research, search warrants, investigations and advice. Act as back up on call ADA all year and take calls at home from attorneys and police Handle the majority of Third Circuit appeals. Solely handle all US Supreme Court appeals. Provide extensive police training to local departments which includes both learning, preparing and presenting the training. Established and publish, in conjunction with Chief Switzer, a legal update newsletter for local law enforcement agencies. Read all new criminal case law and legislation and prepare a synopsis of the new law for the Office. Serve on the statewide Municipal Police Education and raining Committee, Legal Update Committee and am a Certified Instructor. Serve on the Honorable Henry S. Kenderdine Court Self Help Center, meet serval times a year as well as work on the center materials. Prepare presentations and speak at local schools on multiple topics related to Criminal Law and Prosecution. Monitor West Law usage by attorneys to ensure compliance with contract terms, order and maintain legal materials and updates. Schedule attorneys for all court assignments. Handles Bench Warrants, Bail, and many other court hearings. Handle WL account, and office books, library. Prepares Search Warrants, Court Orders, legal memos. Act as On Call ADA on rotating basis. Night On Call backup. Summarize new cases and laws for police and ADAs. Prepares criminal news letter for police. Advise police/ADAs on legal matters at any hour. Review private criminal complaints. Attend Chief’s Computer Meetings. Member of Court Self Help Center Board. Speak at local schools. Assist various local colleges and university police/security departments. Oversee special visits and First Amendment gatherings. Provide trainings to police when requested by the DA and assist the PDAA in legal trainings and other state level law enforcement trainings when approved by the District Attorney. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS: JD Degree. Admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of PA. Admission to the Bars of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States Supreme Court, the Untied States Court of Appeal for the Third Circuit, The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Must be an expert in PA criminal law, limited PA civil law and Federal Habeas Corpus law particularly in the area of appeals; must be able to direct a major criminal investigation, understand all legal tools relative such an investigation, must be able to direct law enforcement on any legal issue. Must be an expert in legal research and understand how to proceed in all levels of state and federal appellate courts. Logistical abilities to manage case files.
