Paralegal Responsibilities: Organizes, monitors, and updates hard copy and electronic case files, including pleadings, discovery materials, deposition transcripts and exhibits, hearing transcripts, pre-trial and trial exhibits, and briefs; Searches for and retrieves documents; Proofreads correspondence, advocacy and education materials, press releases, and website information; Cite-check, bluebook, quote-check, shepardize, and proofread motions, briefs, testimonies, and law review articles; Files and serves court documents, including ECF filing; Conducts Lexis, Westlaw, Concordance, other legal database research, and fact research, as directed; Gathers and organizes exhibits required for court filings, hearings, depositions, client meetings, and conferences; Coordinates with staff, court reporters, printers, and vendors regarding transcription services, printing, scanning, and duplication of documents; Coordinates with attorneys, clients, the IT Department, and vendors regarding the retrieval, processing, review, and production of documents, including electronically stored information; Reviews production and case files for responsiveness in preparation for discovery responses; Screens and organizes requests for legal assistance; Coordinates attorney-client calls and visits; Organizes materials for speaking engagements, seminars, symposia, and conferences, and assists in the preparation of speeches for the same; Assists attorneys at hearings, oral arguments, depositions, and trials; Performs tasks, such as filing, copying, scanning, indexing, and mailing of documents, as needed; Assists attorneys with communications with clients, class members, and interested community stakeholders regarding LDF advocacy matters; Coordinates and supports community meetings and other community outreach activities; and Provides other myriad support to attorneys in their litigation and other advocacy matters.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A college degree with relevant work experience; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Excellent computer skillsâ€”familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, and database systems a plus; Strong research, writing, and analytical skills; Willingness to learn and develop new skills and expertise; Excellent organizational skills; Accuracy and attention to detail; Ability to work independently and with a team; Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly-stressful environment; Ability to prioritize workload; Ability to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner; Willingness to work overtime, including occasional weekends; High motivation; and Commitment to racial justice and civil rights.
