ProfileLegal Assistant Duties: Performs a variety of duties to assist attorneys to whom assigned according to established policies and procedures. Maintains positive contact with clients and observes confidentiality of client matters. Works with other personnel at the Firm in delivering legal services to clients. Performs other duties as required. Keeps accurate time records. Acquires an understanding of the mechanics of civil litigation, including pleadings and discovery tools by attending legal assistant training seminars, litigation department seminars, database training sessions, and through general on-the-job experience. The areas of litigation may include one or more of the following: Antitrust, White Collar, Commercial Litigation, International Trade, and International Arbitration. Legal assistants also have an opportunity to work on pro bono matters. Becomes familiar with the legal and factual issues of matters. Utilizes library, on-line, and outside resources for factual and legal research. Participates in document productions, including reviewing documents, pulling and copying documents, numbering documents, redacting documents for privileged information, creating production indices, and privileged logs and performing database searches. Organizes, indexes, and maintains files. Prepares material as requested for depositions, including creating exhibit lists, reviewing documents for relevant information, and reviewing transcripts for specific information such as compliance with document requests. Summarizes and/or digests transcripts. Prepares exhibits for pleadings, trials, hearings, presentations, etc. Cite checks and shepardizes legal memoranda, briefs, articles, opinions, etc. and creates a Table of Authorities. Pulls cases and other authorities. Prepares pleadings for filing or service, including proofreading, cite checking, pulling, organizing, copying, and assembling exhibits. Creates trial books, case binders, etc. Attends depositions, hearings, and trials. Creates databases, charts, graphs, tables, etc. for analysis of data. May supervise general staff who may be requested to assist the legal assistant. Supervision entails instruction and review of tasks such as page checking, collating, chronologizing, numbering, copying, etc. May be asked to participate in special projects by the legal assistant manager or attorneys that may include billing, interviewing, mentoring new legal assistants, legal assistant meeting presentations, mock trial participation, training demonstrations, translations or interpretations, etc. Must be willing to travel to participate in client activity.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A four-year college degree with a minimum GPA of 3.3. Strong academic background. Bilingual English/Spanish capability strongly preferred. Clear, concise writing skills and good verbal communications skills in Spanish and English. Good organizational skills. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, including knowledge of word processing software, photocopiers, etc. Ability to follow through on projects. Willingness to work overtime. Excellent professional references. Good judgment. High ethical standards. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in person, by e-mail, or telephone and follow the instruction effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff and provide information with courtesy and tact.

There needs to be training of management to better communicate within the department to make sure everyone is communicating collectively. The environment which staff and employees have created should be something that should be maintained.Pros : A law firm in which the environment offers the opportunity gain experience. The space at the law firm is pleasant and is composed of hard working staff and employees.
