Investigative Attorney, Office of Inspector General Duties: Under the general supervision of a Deputy Inspector General, with wide latitude of independent judgment and initiative, develops and implements investigative plans in accordance with the elements of the allegations made. Supervises complex highly confidential legal investigations/surveys involving corruption or other illegal/unethical activities by officials, employees, and/or any persons/organizations that receive monies from/through the Corporation and/or are regulated by the Corporation. Interacts with prosecutors, defense counsel, counsel for third parties, and legal counterparts within the Corporation and the City Department of Investigation. Assumes full responsibility and authority in delegated areas. Supervise the collection and safeguarding of all information and evidence gathered by investigation. Review legal documents. Perform legal research. Advise staff on legal questions, policy, and procedure. Conduct internal training and presentations on legal topics. Conduct subject and witness interviews. Prepare reports and makes recommendations. Maintain case records and analyze agency records. Testify at hearings and court proceedings.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college and 3 years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security or inspections in a major operations area of the organization, at least one year of which shall have been in a responsible supervisory capacity; or, 2. Graduation from a senior high school and 7 years of satisfactory full-time paid experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections (in a major operational area of the organization), of which two years must have been in a field assignment, at least one year of which shall have been in a responsible supervisory capacity; or, 3. A satisfactory equivalent. Preferences: Current member of NYS Bar. Minimum of LLB or JD from an accredited School of Law. Knowledgeable in: Criminal law, litigation, contracts, privacy, procurement, employment, and/or healthcare law. PREFERRED: Preference will be given to qualified applicants with 3+ years of experience as a prosecutor or as an attorney in a healthcare or procurement setting. Strong legal analytical and writing skills. Highest professional and ethical standards.
