Benefits Compliance Specialist The candidate will assist in maintaining the compliance of company’s Health and Welfare Benefit Plan/Retirement Plan [e.g. medical, dental, vision, disability, leaves, 401(k), etc.] and partner with Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) HR team to drive benefits due diligence for M&A integrations and divestitures. In this role, will assume responsibility for the company Plan’s compliance and operational reviews, support in the areas of governance, state, federal and jurisdictional changes that impact plan design and/or administration, M&As, plan documentation, non-discrimination testing and other related activities. Serve as a benefit and compliance expert for the company Health and Welfare Benefit Plan/Retirement Plan and manage federal, state and local compliance issues as well as reporting and disclosure obligations as it relates to ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and related regulations. Serve as primary liaison between Benefits and the HR M&A team to oversee benefits due diligence reviews and drive compliance related activities for acquisitions and divestitures across all benefits (e.g. health and welfare, retirement, leaves and accommodations, etc.) and provide integration support (systems, process, documentation, etc.). Investigate, analyze, and provide recommendations to Benefit Program Managers within company and HR/Benefit Leads from other Alphabet companies on benefit and compliance issues, and ensure consistency and uniformity in materials, responses to questions, and interpretations, where possible. Partner with the Welfare Benefits Committee and in-house ERISA Counsel to discuss plan compliance and regulatory matters impacting benefits. Manage internal compliance with company’s security and privacy standards globally. Work with HIPAA Security team to coordinate policies and procedures under HIPAA’s privacy rules, as revised from time-to-time, to monitor compliance with those rules, and make decisions with respect to any issues that arise under such rules.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. J.D./CPA/MBA/CHC/CEBS, paralegal or similar degree/designation is preferred. Excellent understanding of all facets of welfare and retirement benefit plans, as it relates to plan design and administration and therefore plan benefits and eligibility is desired. Must have 5 years of experience in employee benefits, retirement, auditing or consulting with a focus on compliance at an HR/management consulting or law firm. Experience with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA and retirement-related regulations is needed. Strong communication and influencing skills; ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across multiple offices and regions is desired. Strong understanding of employee benefits legal environment, including statutory and regulatory requirement and the associated case law is preferred.
