A law firm in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a Chemistry Patent Agent with a strong background in chemical engineering or chemistry. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in patent prosecution and a proven track record in drafting patent applications and performing due diligence. This role requires excellent analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with clients, attorneys, and other professionals. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of legal and scientific professionals to manage and protect intellectual property in the chemical and engineering sectors.

Duties:

  • Draft, review, and prosecute patent applications related to chemical engineering and chemistry.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Perform due diligence and prior art searches to support patent applications and litigation.
  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to develop patent strategies and address complex patent issues.
  • Provide expert advice on patent matters and communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and business professionals.
  • Manage and organize patent files, documentation, and correspondence.
  • Participate in meetings, including virtual and in-person, to discuss patent strategies and case developments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all assigned tasks and projects.
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activities, such as working at a computer for extended periods and participating in digital/virtual conference calls.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution, drafting patent applications, and performing due diligence.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in chemical engineering or chemistry.
  • Registration with the USPTO.
  • Direct and applicable experience in a large or mid-sized law firm.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective research and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the USPTO.
