Attorney At Law Duties : Under direction, with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision making, engages in detailed and complex legal work having significant financial, procedural or policy consequences, including the following: Providing advice to the Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI) and the Health Care Facility regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Providing advice to agency personnel on federal, state and local laws relating to employment discrimination. Performing legal research and drafting memos on employment matters, including the ADA, the City Human Rights Law and other statutes relating to employment discrimination. Working with the General Counsel and OEDI in responding to filings submitted to city, state or federal human rights agencies. Serving as liaison to the Law Department, outside counsel and other city agencies for employment and certain tort cases. Drafting and reviewing rules, policy and procedures, orders and affidavits relating to employment issues. Monitoring motor vehicle accidents. and Responding to inquiries regarding certain Freedom of Information Law requests.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : The candidate should have Admission to the New York State Bar. Must have 1+ year of satisfactory, United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any State Bar. Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment. Knowledge of the American with Disability Act and other city, state and federal laws relating to employment discrimination is preferred. Broad experience in City employment law ; excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving skills is preferred. Proficiency in conducting legal research and undertaking factual investigations, including reviewing documents and Department reports is preferred. Knowledge of city and state environmental laws, including State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) procedures a plus.
In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: To be assigned to AL III, must have 2+ years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or 3+ years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment or 6 months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Intern. Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
