Investigative Specialist - GS 7 – 9 The candidate work in the Investigations Division, Fraud Detection Office. Monitors the OIG Hotline, receiving allegations made through the Hotline phone; documents in writing the allegations or complaints received; interviews the complainant; and distributes the case to the appropriate DOJ/OIG field office or DOJ Component to initiate an inquiry/investigation. Inputs allegations into an automated tracking system and maintains statistics on Hotline calls, mail and operations; provides periodic statistical reports from that data. Performs investigative support responsibilities such as coordinating victim-witness matters, ensuring appropriate handling of grand jury material, accessing and retrieving data from law enforcement databases/systems, serving as the Special Operations Support account cashier, and field vehicle coordinator. Analyzes and evaluates a full range of complicated criminal case information including incomplete background facts, research records, and compiles information for reports; verifies case related information through the use of investigative activities. Sets up and monitors the proper functioning of a suspense system to disseminate accurate information. Maintains the confidentiality and security of sensitive information and material located in the office, maintaining accountability over sensitive subject matter and criminal investigative files, to meet current needs and demands for material. Other office management duties to include to, procurement, property, travel and time & attendance coordinator.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have following qualifications: To qualify for the GS-7: Must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level or equivalent performing duties such as coordinating administrative activities and ensuring their timely completion; researching, gathering, compiling and assembling information received from incoming telephone calls and mail by logging data into a database. To qualify for the GS-9: Must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent performing duties such as receiving and processing allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, gross mismanagement, and/or serious security violations; conducting inquiries of allegations; recommending appropriate actions to inquires; preparing responses to submitted complaints. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent). Education: GS-7: A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society; OR one full year of graduate level; OR education from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; OR a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and experience. NOTE: One year of full time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester or 27 quarter hours should be considered as satisfying 1 year.
