Deputy General Counsel – Data, Technology, and Digital Health
The candidate will play a leadership role in the design and implementation of the legal architecture for firm's data governance operations and data driven initiatives. Act as a primary subject matter expert regarding the legal aspects of acquiring, protecting and using healthcare data. Develop and support enterprise wide policies, procedures, and supporting materials, such as contracts and training materials, regarding data acquisition, protection, and use. Support the enterprise-wide legal teams by drafting, reviewing and negotiating data protection and use provisions in contracts. Participate in the external materials review and product development processes, and coordinate closely with business and legal subject matter experts across the enterprise.Serve as counsel to firm's Technology executive leadership in the development, structuring and execution of innovative technology initiatives, products, and transactions. Provide legal expertise, drafting, and negotiation for unique transactions, including complex contracts, development agreements, pilot programs, and other strategic initiatives. Serve as counsel to business and technology development teams across the UnitedHealth Group enterprise responsible for digital health projects and initiatives, which may range from mobile apps to new AI/ML models supporting clinical operations. Provide legal advice, transaction support, and contract drafting and negotiation for these efforts. Participate in the product development and review process, and coordinate closely with subject matter experts across the enterprise in such areas as privacy, intellectual property, litigation, and health law.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Juris Doctorate degree. Should have 15+ years’ experience in the practice of general business law, specifically including data transactions, digital health initiatives, information technology and/or intellectual property. Demonstrated, extensive experience in each of the above-described areas is desired. Law firm and in-house experience in the above areas is preferred. Should have excellent team player with demonstrated record of developing cross functional projects, developing consensus and encouraging change. Must have ability to recognize and elevate complex and/or controversial issues to senior management in a timely and effective manner. Should have ability to manage confrontation in a sensitive manner and develop deep working relationships across multiple function areas internally and externally. Should have ability to manage, handle and prioritize multiple projects. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent presentation creation and delivery skills. Should have current admission to a U.S. state bar.
