Paralegal - Foreign Patent Prosecution
The candidate will assist with the preparation, filing and prosecution of foreign patent applications (e.g. application papers, responses, responses to official actions, assignments, information disclosure statements, maintenance government fees, etc.). Assist with the preparation, filing and prosecution of foreign patent applications (e.g. patent cooperation treaty (“PCT”) filings, correspond with foreign associates. Perform legal research and factual investigation using on-line search engines and patent databases including researching patent families and patent ownership interests. Assist with patent due diligence review/acquisition evaluations. Review docket database for upcoming deadlines; reviews standard and special reports generated by patent docket clerks. Prepare and compile reports using databases, and oversee and maintain IP prosecution departmental file folders in conjunction with database entry. The ability to multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy, exercise independent judgment, reason logically and make sound decisions in a fast-paced work environment. Strong written and oral communication skills, research, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential to be successful in this position. Should have Bachelor’s degree or significant relevant work experience in patent prosecution in place of degree. Previous patent prosecution experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department is preferred. Must have working knowledge of patent docketing procedures and experience with U.S. patent filings. A high degree of technical proficiency in the firm’s computer applications including to MS Office and knowledge of docketing software, preferably IP Manager. Must be able to work beyond the standard scheduled hours as needed.
