Senior Director, Global Competition Law The candidate lead company’s Global Competition team, including setting global strategic goals aligned to the business teams’ areas of focus. Liaise with regulators and other stakeholders around the world, including on regulatory inquiries and advocacy matters. Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team, including other areas of the Legal Team, to develop and implement Uber’s long-term competition strategy, including interacting with senior business leaders in all of our global markets. Partner with the business and other cross-functional teams to provide practical advice and proactive strategic guidance on business specific matters, including M&A and business development opportunities, private claims, product development, etc. Hands-on work on global antitrust and competition law matters, including client counseling, education, antitrust advocacy, litigation, and deal support. Retain and manage outside counsel on merger reviews and other competition matters, as needed. Assist with internal investigations involving potential antitrust issues in close coordination with the lead investigation team. Monitor legal and global regulatory changes that impact the company’s business across the globe, and strengthen and leverage the legal team’s capabilities on global competition law. Understand, interpret, and apply global competition laws to Uber's current and future businesses and platforms. Work with Uber’s global policy team to communicate the pro-competitive benefits of company's businesses to academics, third parties, regulators, etc. Engage and manage outside counsel, including substantive oversight and ensuring budget compliance. Occasional travel in the U.S. and internationally. Should have 15+ years of legal experience, including practicing at two or more of the following: a nationally-recognized antitrust practice at a large law firm, an antitrust government agency, a state or federal enforcement agency with a focus on competition matters, or an in-house corporate role. Must have Juris Doctor from an accredited and top tier law school and an active license to practice law in the U.S. Should have recognized as a subject matter expert in global competition law and practice in day-to-day advising, litigation, regulatory matters, and in merger review contexts. Must have significant experience in sub-areas of federal and state antitrust and competition law, including predatory pricing, price fixing, two-sided markets, consumer protection, unfair competition, cartels, single firm conduct, dealing with competitors, pricing matters, and merger issues. Should have experience with U.S. and international competition regulators. Must have deep experience and understanding of global policy and ability to effectively partner with Uber’s global policy teams. Prior experience in dealing with technology issues is preferred.
