ProfileParalegal The candidate will provide paralegal services by conducting legal research, preparing preliminary legal analysis, and drafting of form legal documents, letters, and memoranda. Will conduct in-depth analysis of legal issues utilizing available online research tools, internet resources, or printed legal resources. Research and evaluate state and federal regulations, sub-regulatory guidance, collective bargaining unit agreements/side letters and agency contracts that govern all aspects of the origination and servicing of student loans and firm-administered State Grant and Special Programs. Attend meetings involving discussion of assigned legal issues and present product of legal research and analysis to firm Attorneys. Analyze and redact discovery responses. Draft Legal Memoranda, Correspondence, and Documents. Draft form legal documents including preparation of subpoenas and notices of depositions; preparing entries of appearance, standard form interrogatories, and standard requests for requests for production; prepare summaries of discovery responses, and other work which requires a similar level of training, skill and experience. Upon completion of research and analysis, develop draft appropriate legal memoranda, correspondence, and documents which may pertain to collective bargain unit initiatives, as requested by firm Attorneys. After receiving business unit information, draft responsive correspondence or other legal documentation for review, finalization, and signature. Generate reporting of legal and compliance issues trending. File pleadings, motions and briefs in state and federal court. Maintain records for all documentation maintained. Maintain recording keeping and tracking system from outcomes of legal research and analysis. Maintain calendaring of meetings, events, deadlines, and progression of tasks. Maintain Legal Periodicals. Act as liaison to other divisions and within the Legal and Compliance to allow seamless work product and adherence to internal legal processes. Perform specialized project work with on-going responsibilities for general legal and contracts work.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Paralegal certification from an ABA approved program and 2-4 years of relevant work experience in a legal setting. Should preferably have Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated knowledge of business law, contract law, compliance, and/or litigation. Demonstrated knowledge of court procedures, and preparation of legal documents and records is essential. Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills is needed. Excellent organization, critical thinking and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to correctly track many details and documents in a fast-paced environment is must. Demonstrated proficiency with Lotus Notes, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WestLaw, and online legal research websites is essential.
