Legal Administrative Assistant – Litigation The candidate will provide administrative support to lawyers in the Products Liability & Mass Torts Practice Group. Will be responsible for: Preparing correspondence, legal documents, forms, presentations and the like using advanced knowledge and skills with word processing related and other software programs. Managing billing process to include time-entry, data review and correction, final submission to meet all Firm-required deadlines, maintenance of billing records, and research of disputes and discrepancies. Establishing and maintaining well-organized files and the integrity of original client documents. Showing a strong sense of ownership and integrity when reading, prioritizing, routing and following up on client communications. Scheduling appointments, travel preparation/arrangements and managing business calendars.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have 3-5 years’ prior work experience within a law firm and specifically in a litigation practice group is required. Prior experience with programs including Best Authority, eFiling, DocuSign, PDF Essentials, various ERoom platforms, DropBox, etc is required. Should have advanced use of MS Word (including redlining, comparing documents, advanced formatting, TOA and TOC creation and manipulation, and embedded hyperlinks) as well as an ability to quickly learn other applications as necessary. Must have proficient knowledge and usage of document management system (WorkSite/FileSite). Should have the ability to independently and efficiently prioritize workflow, and maintain an organized task schedule. Must have superior organizational skills; demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.

Treat support staff better so that there is more consistency in this area. Give people more opportunities to expand their roles, and make sure these people are selected based on merit. Help IT do their jobs better.

Pros : Pretty good pay and benefits. Stable client base. Doesn't suffer as much from typical big-firm problems, to the extent you might think. Looks good on a resume.
Cons : Too much emphasis on inter-office politics. Use of technology could be better. Lots of turnover in the support staff; support staff seems kind of poorly treated in general, actually. Advancement can be difficult.
