IP Legal Intern (Organic Chemistry)
Legal Intern will work under the supervision of an attorney and attend law school in the evening. Responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and supporting IP due diligences, patent landscape analyses, patent litigations, post-grant proceedings (IPR, PGR, interferences) and other IP matters related to small molecule pharmaceuticals. The position requires an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred, or M.S. with several years industry experience) in chemistry, with a strong emphasis in organic or medicinal chemistry. Must have experience researching, writing and reading scientific publications in a relevant area. Additionally, candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, superior academic background and a desire for teamwork, significant responsibility and client interaction. Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is preferred. If you are considering law school or attending law school (local evening programs only), are encouraged to apply.

I'm aware the size of the firm means it has to operate in a certain way, but people should be treated more like individuals and less like cogs in a machine. People have to have time to recharge and have to be motivated by the realistic chance of promotion, and they also like to see their ideas for change put into motion.

Pros : Most staff and many attorneys are pleasant to work with. Job security is not much of a concern, nor is staying busy. Some perks are pretty good.
Cons : Few people are concerned with helping their subordinates maintain an appropriate work-life balance. Advancement can be difficult. Things are kind of slow to change in general.
