Staff Attorney Duties: Conduct legal and factual research and prepare motions, briefs, comments, and all other administrative filings in proceedings, litigation, and appeals. Act as lead and support attorney on administrative proceedings before the CA Public Utilities Commission – litigate cases from beginning to end, including all aspects of administrative proceedings including: participating in hearings, examining witnesses, working with experts and writing briefs and comments. Implement legal advocacy strategies to support POC’s goals . Communicate with the news media and develop relationships with reporters. Coordinate with outside counsel and affinity organizations, including San Diego grassroots organization. Represent POC as an expert on California energy regulation in the community, in public participation processes, before decision-makers, and with affinity organizations. Assist in preparation of reports and studies on energy and environmental issues.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. Member of the California State Bar. 3+ years of litigation, appellate, and administrative advocacy or other relevant experience post law school. Experience in advocacy or grassroots activism in the San Diego area highly desired. Commitment to public interest law. Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Education and/or experience in public interest environmental law, energy law, litigation, appellate law, and administrative advocacy. Thorough and persistent with a good attention to detail. Ability to work independently and also collaboratively as part of a team of other attorneys, experts, and advocates. Excellent oral communication skills including ability to cross examine witnesses and to speak on behalf of POC in legal proceedings and in the community. Demonstrated ability to grasp scientific and engineering concepts, science or engineering background preferred. Deadline: 06/08/2018
