Part-time Senior Counsel - Trust, Custody and ERISA The candidate will support all lines of business in daily activities, decision-making, performance, and in the achievement of strategic initiatives and goals. Will support Fifth Third Institutional Services and its Retirement Plan Operations Division. Analyze and counsel on the intersection of ERISA, securities, insurance, tax and banking laws. Structure products and services offered to retirement plans and IRAs, investment advisors. Counsel internal investment management clients who service retirement plans . Participate in fiduciary decision-making discussions for Institutional Services, including internal training programs that promote consistent fiduciary behavior within Institutional Service.. Advise on products and/or services implicating ERISA or Internal Revenue Code prohibited transaction rules. Review investment disclosure documents, retirement plan investment marketing materials, and custody service agreements . Responsible for legal matters affecting the Division represented, including contracts, transactions, regulatory matters and legal research. Participate in new business, business case exception, risk and other internal Institutional Services committees responsible for strategic, tactical Division decisions. Engage directly with senior management of Division represented and manager of Legal Department on material matters and decisions. Proactively review regulatory and industry-wide changes. Interpret regulatory changes and identify impact of changes. Participate in industry trade group and other industry-wide organizations that make key strategic decisions for financial institutions.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree and 6+ years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department with primary areas of expertise that include retirement plans and/or IRAs, investment management, custodial arrangements, and related responsibilities. Should be proficient knowledge of federal and various state trust and fiduciary laws and regulations. Admission to and good standing with a state Bar is essential. Must have excellent interpersonal, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to interact well with all organizational levels
