Part-Time Legal Assistant The candidate will be responsible for draft pleadings such as simple motions. Propound and respond to discovery such as interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admissions, including out of state depositions and document productions, and attendance at document productions. Prepare exhibits and Summarize depositions. Summarize client files and perform legal research (in Westlaw and Lexis, internally) and state and Federal Court files. Obtain medical records, organize them and calculate expenses. Assemble and organize all aspects of trial preparation from exhibits, demonstrative evidence, and trial notebook. Cite, check briefs and prior to filing with Court. Direct support staff as needed and provide Litigation specific information (i.e. complaints, summons, and subpoenas) to attorneys and paralegals in other departments. Keep accurate time records.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have knowledge of legal principles with education or experience as evidenced by a 4 year bachelor’s degree in any field. Excellent organizational skills are essential. This includes the ability to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Strong orientation to detailed work is needed as well as excellent written communications skills. Ability to demonstrate high degree of professionalism and interpersonal skills is must. Ability to delegate non-substantive and non-billable work is critical. Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors is required. Ability to generate and revise legal documents and construct, maintain and utilize databases is needed.
