Legal Assistant The candidate will provide overall support to attorneys' business needs. Will conduct research to support legal proceedings. Assist with the drafting and reviewing of legal documents. Investigate facts to help in the negotiation of legal disputes. Monitor and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Record and store client information. Assist attorneys as well as work with other paralegals and firm members, with all aspects of estate planning. Research law, gather and analyze information skillfully, and prepare documents for attorney review. Prepare all types of basic estate planning documents such as will, trusts, etc. Prepare all types of ancillary documents such as durable powers of attorneys, advance healthcare directives, etc. Prepare all types of transfer documents such as deeds, assignments, etc. Communicate with clients and professionals as needed. Conversant in estate planning as well as estate and gift tax law. Perform legal research and prepare memos regarding same. Work on special projects as needed. Must be able and willing to work overtime if required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have completed an ABA-accredited paralegal certification program (or the reasonable equivalent). Prior paralegal experience in a law firm strongly preferred. Prior estate planning paralegal experience of 4+ years is strongly preferred. Familiarity with estate and gift taxes is essential. Proficiency in Word and Excel required, and in QuickBooks and Outlook required for compensation. Familiarity with legal research is needed. Prior experience a plus in: asset evaluation and drafting documents and probate court.
Note: The candidate will work 20-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, preferably between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM; overtime as needed.
