ProfileAttorney DUTIES: Imparts the mission, values, and vision of Health and facilitates the integration of values in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Follows internal policies, standard operating procedures, and provides a personal example of CQI leadership by effectively applying the seven principles of the Health philosophy and expectations to carry out the duties of this position. Works collaboratively with the Region’s Legal Affairs staff to ensure Health’s structures and operations comply with relevant law, ethical business practices, and the system’s mission and values. Works at the direction of the Regional General Counsel to provide research and support to Legal Affairs for the assigned Health region and its operating entities, including regulatory, compliance, and other legal matters; and communicating legal issues affecting the operations of the region, including applicable law and regulatory matters. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Health’s Corporate Responsibility Program, Code of Ethics, and relevant Policies and Procedures to ensure actions are consistent with SSM Health’s mission and values, as well as organizational and professional ethical requirements. Performs other duties and special projects as requested by the Regional General Counsel.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Completion of a JD Degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school (health law focus preferred) and a member in good standing of a state bar association. In-depth knowledge of health care and provider operations, exempt organization requirements, health care regulation and compliance, Fraud and Abuse laws, False Claims Act, CMS Conditions of Participation and the accreditation standards. Utmost discretion in maintaining appropriate confidentiality, as well as knowledge of attorney-client privilege. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to integrate CQI principles and tools into work processes. Ability to manage a significant work load, prioritize projects appropriately, and work independently. Ability to type with speed and accuracy. Ability to use a personal computer and possess advanced skills in the latest software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lync and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to adapt to new technology and new processes with minimal explanation.
