A law firm seeks an associate with 2-5 years of experience in patent litigation, specializing in ANDA or other life sciences matters. This role, located in Palo Alto, offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes patent disputes in the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate will be eager to take on client-facing responsibilities, engage in courtroom proceedings, and play an active role in case strategy and development.

Duties:

  • Patent Litigation: Represent clients in patent infringement cases, particularly in the life sciences sector, before . District Courts and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
  • Case Strategy & Analysis: Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop litigation strategies and contribute to the direction of cases.
  • Research & Legal Writing: Conduct factual and legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, claim construction briefs, and dispositive motions.
  • Discovery & Depositions: Handle discovery processes related to patent infringement, validity, and damages issues, including conducting depositions and managing expert discovery.
  • Trial Preparation & Participation: Assist in pre-trial activities and trial preparations, representing clients in hearings, depositions, and other litigation matters.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, providing strategic guidance and regular updates on case progress.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside colleagues and experts in the life sciences field to navigate complex patent issues and create effective litigation solutions.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of patent litigation experience, particularly in ANDA or life sciences-related cases.
  • Experience in . District Court litigation and post-grant proceedings before the PTAB.
  • Proven ability to draft legal documents, conduct case analysis, and provide strategic counsel.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience interacting directly with clients, opposing counsel, and internal teams.
  • Background in life sciences, preferably with a degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or another life sciences discipline is highly preferred.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar in the jurisdiction where the position is located (or eligibility for admission).

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal writing and research abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to handle complex patent litigation issues.
  • Confidence in client-facing roles and courtroom settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to strategic decision-making.
