Attorney (Special Intake Services Developer) The candidate develop two initiatives to improve access to legal services. The Telephone Counseling Service includes about 5 non-attorney intake specialists and 13 attorneys who qualify applicants for service and provide legal advice by phone on a variety of civil legal issues, including housing, family, public benefits, education and consumer law. The attorneys also refer clients for additional service within where resources permit and outside of company as appropriate. In addition, participates in an online access system to aid persons seeking legal help to determine if the services they are seeking are available, to screen for certain criteria for cases and to link applicants to an expedited telephone interview to access services. Will be responsible for further developing this Online Access System as an additional portal for program-wide intake. This aspect of the position requires the individual to be very comfortable in working with technology, methodical in setting up the rules guiding the system, and detail oriented in testing the rules before implementation. In addition, this position will be responsible for coordinating a new model service focused on legal advice for self-represented litigants. This new service will be developed on a small scale in coordination with legal self help centers and will test whether services targeted at a segment of self represented litigants is effective and efficient. Must be admitted to the Illinois Bar and be seeking part-time work. Some legal experience is required. Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
