Salary: ? to per hour # Legal Assistant ## Overview A Legal Assistant is responsible for preparing legal files for suit and assisting with the file to answer or judgment. This position is located at a law firm in Troy, Michigan and is a full-time role. ## Primary Duties and Responsibilities - Promoting the law firm's vision and mission - Performing online records research - Reviewing file information received from clients for accuracy and completeness - Preparing files for suit - Preparing and reviewing declarations and affidavits for truthfulness - Preparing correspondence to courts, attorneys and clients - Preparing form pleadings - Reviewing bankruptcy filings, deceased notifications and military hits - Assisting attorneys and paralegals - Meeting and exceeding company and client goals - Complying with all federal, state and local regulations - Complying with all office policies and procedures ## Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Excellent analytical, research, writing and organizational skills - Ability to read, write and speak fluent English - Familiarity with pleadings and other legal documents - Knowledge of legal terminology and principles - General understanding of the legal process from suit to judgment - Complete knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal, state and local collection regulations including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) - Ability to use standard office equipment including a computer, keyboard, copy machine, phone system and calculator - Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word and Excel) and collection software - Basic typing skills - Ability to be self-motivated - Desire to work with others in achieving company and client goals ## Minimum Education and Experience Requirements - At least a high school diploma or GED required - At least 2 years of legal experience preferred ## Other Work Requirements - May be required to work evenings and weekends - Successfully pass pre-employment testing including criminal background check, credit check and drug testing ## Salary - to per hour The Legal Assistant role is an important position within a law firm. The primary responsibility is to prepare legal files for suit and assist with the file to answer or judgment. The Legal Assistant must have excellent analytical, research, writing and organizational skills to be successful. The Legal Assistant must have a high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of legal experience. The Legal Assistant must also be able to read, write and speak fluent English and be familiar with pleadings and other legal documents. They must also have a complete knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal, state and local collection regulations including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”). The Legal Assistant must also be able to use standard office equipment including a computer, keyboard, copy machine, phone system and calculator. They must also be familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word and Excel) and collection software. The Legal Assistant must also have the ability to be self-motivated and have a desire to work with others in achieving company and client goals. They must also comply with all federal, state and local regulations and office policies and procedures. The position is a full-time role and may require the Legal Assistant to work evenings and weekends. Successful candidates must pass pre-employment testing including criminal background check, credit check and drug testing. The salary for the Legal Assistant position is to per hour.
