Claims Counsel, Construction/Contract Surety Claims The candidate will manage a caseload of moderate to high complexity claims from start through settlement and resolution, and within specific authority limits. Also ensure that claims are handled in the most efficient and effective manner to deliver on firm’s claims best practices and commitment to customer-centricity. Will have an opportunity to develop strong partnerships that include extensive communications and interactions with principals, brokers and other internal business unit contacts. Primary accountabilities include: Analyzing coverage, liability and damages; Participating in mediations and negotiating settlements; Drafting coverage and denial letters, underwriter notification of claim issues, etc.; Drafting case summary reports in connection with significant reserve increases and trial preparation; Directing activities of defense counsel.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Juris Doctor and 5+ years of experience in the Claims or Litigation area that includes construction/contract surety claims OR Bachelor’s Degree and 6+ years of experience in the Claims or Litigation area that includes construction/contract surety claims OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8+ years of experience in the Claims or Litigation area that includes construction/contract surety claims OR Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 6+ years of experience in the Claims Handling area within the Insurance industry and includes construction/contract surety claims. Should have knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment. Negotiation experience is required. Must have customer service experience. should have Microsoft Office experience. 5+ years of experience in construction/contract surety claims is desired. Analytical skills are preferred. Strong math and finance skills are preferred. Experience collaborating across work groups are preferred.
