Coordinating Attorney, PBU The candidate will staff and conduct client intake. Will perform legal research, draft legal memoranda, advocacy letters, and other legal documents. Litigate all phases of housing court cases and administrative proceedings, including negotiating and drafting stipulations, drafting pleadings and motions, conducting discovery, depositions, trials, and briefing and arguing appeals. Represent veterans in other legal matters, such as public benefits cases, compensation and pensions, disability ratings, and discharge upgrades. Conduct outreach in communities where veteran tenants’ rights are threatened, and train veterans groups on tenants’ rights. Oversee the performance of a paralegal and half-time attorney. Supervision of designated staff including paralegals, volunteers and/or clinical students in connection with the specified project or program. May include mentorship of more junior attorneys. Coordinate and represent the project at outside meetings with community members, government, partners and/or funders. Examine community needs and work with the Unit Director, Associate Director, General Counsel, Senior Supervising Attorney, or Supervising Attorney to evaluate delivery of services. Foster and manage relationships with community based organizations and funders. Maintain and/or develop collaborative opportunities with partners. Assist in tracking and entry of data for grants and proposals. Assist in selecting cases for representation, advice and counsel and/or comprehensive services for the project. Coordinate and lead outreach. Conduct legal or educational trainings for in house staff, outside partners, and the community. Participate in conferences, meetings and trainings as needed. Develop and maintain materials, sample filings, and/or legal training presentations as needed. Maintain detailed records in a case management system. JD degree is required, VA certification strongly preferred. Must have 3+ years of experience. Past history serving veterans is preferred. History of military service strongly preferred.
